Once the genealogical research carried out by my cousin Jean-Claude Richer and myself have established the exact place of birth of our ancestor, a certain number of approaches have been made to the parish priest and the civil authorities of the "Commune de Louvetot" and, under the impulsion of Louis Richer, the city council has graciously accepted to erect on the front of their city hall a commemorative brass plate to the memory of Jacques Ériché, our ancestor; you can visualize it above.

The unveiling of that plate has taken place Saturday, September 15, 2007, under the presidency of the mayor of the "Commune de Louvetot", Monsieur Alain Legrand. Numerous dignitaries and a part of the population of Louvetot attended that function along with more than twenty descendants of Jacques Ériché from Québec, Ontario, the USA and even Northern Ireland and a certain number of Héricher of the vicinity of Louvetot which gave an opportunity to exchange ideas about genealogy.

Among those, Monsieur Éric Mardoc, a Norman genealogist and an experimented researcher, pointed out to me that the mark of Jacques Ériché at the bottom of the death certificate of his wife, Catherine Pain, is a stylized pattern of a weaver's shuttle and that it is the mark of his trade craft. Il is now possible to assert that the father of our ancestor was a weaver. You can visualize the act and the mark of Jacques on the page of this site titled "Nos origines" or by clicking here

On the basis of these exchanges, I have examined the new photographs of the acts concerning our ancestors that I have taken in the Louvetot town hall.

A new trail that migth bring us forward by one generation in our lineage appears in a signature at the bottom of the death certificate of Jacques LEHÉRICHER (the father of our ancestor that came to Montréal) in Louvetot in 1671. It is the signature of Pierre LEGRAND who, according to his mark, is also a weaver in Louvetot. The parish records of Louvetot report the inhumation of a Catherine LEHÉRICHER on February 1, 1716, at the age of 80 years old and widow of Pierre LEGRAND. This data indicate that she was born around 1636, which is also the approximate date of birth of Jacques LEHÉRICHER who married Catherine PAIN.

Even if that has to be confirmed, it is probable that Catherine LEHÉRICHER married to Pierre LEGRAND was the sister of Jacques LEHÉRICHER married to Catherine PAIN.

In order to establish the names of her father and mother who are probably those of our ancestor, I am now making the arrangements to get a copy of the wedding certificate of Catherine LEHÉRICHER et Pierre LEGRAND; to get this record should not be too difficult since I know the date and the place where that wedding took place.

I will keep you posted on the evolution of that trail.

The official ceremony had been preceded by a bus tour of Louvetot and its region, a normand meal and a commemorative mass in the church of Louvetot; it was followed by a cocktail offered by the municipality.

That day closed with a reception in the "Château de Valliquerville" where many participants had made reservations.

Many photographs taken on that day can be admired by clicking here. A Video of the same day by clicking on the camera:
